After sitting under the Bodhi tree in a place called Bodh Gaya in India, Siddhartha Gautama became enlightened and became the Buddha. He realized what is now known as The Four Noble Truths.
- The Truth of Suffering or dukkha (there is suffering in life).
- The Truth of the Cause of Suffering (craving, desire, ignorance).
- The Truth of the End of Suffering (there is an end to our suffering).
- The Truth of the Path that leads to the end of Suffering (The Noble Eightfold Path).
Simply put, there is suffering in this life. The root of our suffering is craving, desire, etc. There can be an end to suffering if we seek it. The end to that suffering is to follow The Eightfold Path.
